SUSANNE OLIVER ARMSTRONG
Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia

Profession: Writer, counsellor, adult educator, researcher.
Workplace: Private practice.
Services: Courses, workshops, individual tutoring.
Language: English.

“During my life I have had vast experience working alongside people suffering from the impact of trauma; as grief counsellor, a nurse, an adult educator, and when working for women traumatised by sexual abuse and domestic violence in a women’s centre. I also have my own lived experience of emotional distress as a survivor of trauma and find creative resources, such as writing and art, liberate me from a place of emotional distress to generate healing and resolution. My recently submitted Doctor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) thesis explores the intergenerational transference of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the need to express our silenced voices through the methods of creative writing and art.”

STACEY HARE HODGINS
Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

Profession: Counsellor, facilitator, community-engaged arts organizer.
Workplace: Private practice.
Services: Workshops, individual tutoring.
Language: English.

“I’m a registered social worker, facilitator, writer, maker, and advocate. I work as a freelance community arts organizer and have a private counselling practice guiding therapeutic writing.

I’m drawn to places where art and social justice come together, where self-expression makes the hidden visible and transforms our lived experiences. Some of my most meaningful work has involved creating and facilitating arts programs for survivors of gender-based violence and for under-represented youth coping with anxiety. I know firsthand that by (re)connecting us with ourselves (and each other), writing can be a powerful tool for personal growth and healing. In my private practice, I draw on narrative, mindfulness, and response-based therapies to help others use writing to reclaim their strengths, develop their coping skills, and tell their stories on their own terms.“

REESEE/JUNGLE FLOWER
Toronto, Canada

Profession: Warrior poet and workshop facilitator.
Workplace: Reclaim Your Voice.
Services: Workshops.
Language: English.

“In 2011 I had a spiritual awakening and came to believe that the only reason I experienced and escaped psychological abuse was to help support others with similar experiences. Fuelled by this purpose, I faced my greatest fear — public speaking — and began to host events where people who have been abused could share their stories. I founded Reclaim Your Voice in 2012 in the name of peace and healing for all and since then have hosted over 50 events and workshops of this nature. In doing this work, I have learned how important it is for survivors to be surrounded by a loving community. It is my joy and purpose to support others in this way, through spoken word performances, live speaking, writing workshops, storytelling and events for people who have experienced abuse.”

JULIA CASCIOLA
Cape Town, South Africa

Profession: English language editor, spiritual companion.
Services: Workshops, individual tutoring, text feedback.

“Voicelessness has been a theme through my life, and through my maternal lineage (biological and spiritual). Over the years I have heard many women express the same. I offer an experience of writing as prayer, writing together in and from Nature, in a ‘via feminina’ or feminine way of love and safety.

My mouth has been sealed for so long. Now the words rise like the wind, the prophetess, the clouds and grasses blowing across the veld. My mouth is melted, parted, receiving words like manna, like lightning, like the scent of spikenard at the resurrection.

VERONICA OLSSON
Avesta, Sweden

Profession: Church janitor and writing instructor.
Workplace: Sjökvik’s folk high school.
Services: Courses, workshops, individual tutoring.
Language: Swedish.

”I believe that through will and courage, we can reach our goals. That truths can surface, from within and without, and that when they join, our true selves become visible. I believe that change is part of our stories, and that we need to be like grass bending in the wind and not breaking. To me, writing is so much more than constructing a text. It has become a way to move on, but also to look back and learn from past experiences. To witness others discover writing as a tool, is as much a reward as writing for my own sake. Life can be chaotic. However, from chaos, order can be created. A process, truths, wholeness. You can find order through words – through entering your story, connecting with your emotions, and finding your voice.  It is a beginning. It is our reward.”

EVA SALQVIST
Umeå, Sweden

Profession: Author, play therapist and grief group leader.
Workplace: The University Hospital of Umeå.
Services: Courses, individual tutoring, text feedback.
Language: Swedish, English.

“When recovering from exhaustion and depression in 2006, I took to writing to find my way out and discover what I really wanted to do with my life. I attended a writing education called “Write for your life” at Medlefors Folk High School with focus on autobiographical writing. Exploring yourself, your experiences and finding the words to describe your emotions is the fastest way to find your voice as an author. Since then I have published several books, mostly for children and young people.

I also work at the University Hospital of Umeå as a play therapist and grief group leader. There we use a pedagogical method not so different from the Write Your Self methodology, to approach what’s difficult. Using your own words to describe your experiences has tremendous healing power, although it may initially feel difficult. Here you get the opportunity to do it at your own pace and choose your own topics.”

With a transparency that is nothing but love in its purest form. It is very life-giving and powerful. I want to share this experience with others as a guide. LINDA WAHLUND
Stockholm, Sweden

Profession: Social worker, trained in psychotherapy and bibliotherapy. Author and writing instructor.
Workplace: Self-employed and counselor at Österåker municipality.
Services: Courses, workshops, individual tutoring.
Language: Swedish.

”As a therapist, I have sought the correlation between talking, stories, reading, and writing, and I have found it in bibliotherapy and Write Your Self. A way where creative writing and the exploration of one’s story about oneself, lead forward. We all go through crises and some of us carry traumas, where we get stuck or repeat patterns that we want to break. Where we need to find words to describe what we have been through, and where fragments and memories do not always form a coherent story. Through creative writing, we can find words and ownership of our stories. We can write the beginning, middle and end, and describe both difficulties and the worst that has happened, but also our longings and wishes. We can reclaim our lives – you can reclaim your life.”

CAROLINA WELIN
Stockholm/Leksand, Sweden

Profession: Psychosynthesis therapist, counsellor, author, communicator.
Workplace: MOW HÄLSA in Stockholm, Masesgården in Leksand.
Services: Courses, workshops, individual tutoring.
Language: Swedish, English.

“When working with people in crisis I like to say that I keep my heart in my eyes and my eyes in my fingertips. I work with people who need help to find themselves, to find energy in both body and soul, or to find their spark again when they “have it all” and still don’t feel well. A lot of us need help moving forward in spite of circumstances. For someone to meet you where you are can make all the difference. Healing grows from the therapeutic relationship.

I have developed a healing recovery program, Mitt-i-Livet® (In-the-Midst-of-Life), which helps people find energy in body and soul. I run this program in collaboration with Hälsohemmet Masesgården in Leksand, Sweden. The concept came to me during my own healing process. Writing has always been my outlet – I write books, and I love to offer clients writing therapy online. You are welcome to contact me if you want to know more.”

Profession: Gestalt therapist, coach, informator.
Work place: Glimra coaching, Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan Västmanland.
Services: Courses, individual tutoring.
Language: Swedish.

“I’m a communicator, coach and gestalt therapist, with a strong interest in the healing capacity of words. To be given the opportunity to verbalise the true story of oneself, is to create an updated version of oneself, and by this, enabling a new self-image. An image more aligned with reality than that story which is told by others, which to a great extent directs our actions. We can show up as the person we really are. And, to be allowed to put the past into words, and perhaps also things that have been necessary to keep secret, can have a healing effect, as well as increasing our understanding of our past and clarifying what we need going forward, to deal with life at the best of our abilities.”

Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into the places of pain, to share in brokenness… ~ Henri Nouwen

“I offer services of COMPASSION. Safe, sacred and still space; spiritual companionship; guidance in writing your story and telling your truth: opportunity to explore who you are, and who you desire to become. One-on-one soul care sessions, support for each Enneagram type’s soul care needs, writing workshops for grief & suffering support (online and in-person).”

WINNIE SO
United States

Profession: Writer and Chinese-to-English translator.
Workplace: Remote (mainly Europe) or at home.
Services: Individual tutoring, text feedback.

“I guide people on their own path of transformation through journeys and words. I help people audit and align their assumptions, values, and beliefs according to their new reality after crisis or disruption, process emotions, reimagine life based on new understanding, clarify goals and actions through a process of exploration in the world, and introspective writing. I work with writers on an individual basis either remotely or in-person if we happen to be in the same place. I am a nomad who is mainly in Europe, but I also spend time in Asia (HK, Singapore) and the U.S. (NYC, Phoenix). I am also a writer and Chinese-to-English translator, and have experienced healing my own childhood trauma and relationships affected by that trauma.”
